Frequently Asked Questions Page

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is therapy, using hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very natural state of complete mental and physical relaxation, which allows the critical, rationalising conscious part of the mind to take a rest while the unconscious part (the part that allows you to drive without thinking) becomes open, focused and receptive to new information and memories become more easily accessible.

Can it help me?

Yes if you want to make a change, hypnosis will certainly speed up and help with that process. Your thoughts, either those connected to memories or to the present are directly related to our emotions, so if negative or destructive thoughts are making you feel anxious, depressed or locked into a behaviour you would rather leave behind, replacing them with more positive helpful thoughts or suggestions during hypnosis, can make you feel a great deal better or help you to make those changes. Hypnosis can also help you link to the buried memories that are at the root of your problems and by dealing with those memories you can resolve the problems they are creating.

What conditions or problems will it help?

The list of conditions helped by hypnotherapy is extensive and includes problems relating to Anxiety, Depression, Stress, and Eating Disorders.

What is self-hypnosis?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, but you can also learn to hypnotise yourself.

What does it feel like?

Being hypnotized allows you the chance to feel wonderfully relaxed and peaceful, you might experience a feeling of dreaminess similar to that felt during the period just before you go to sleep, although you are however fully awake and very aware of everything around you.

Does hypnotherapy really work?

The power of hypnotherapy has been well documented.

Will it be like stage hypnosis?

Not in the slightest, although hypnosis is used in stage shows it is purely entertainment and is largely contrived, clinical hypnosis involves using techniques that are aimed at benefiting and helping you to resolve your problems, nothing else.

Can the hypnotherapist make me do anything I don’t want to?

No, definitely not, you are fully in control of everything at all times. The hypnotherapist is there to help you and only wants what you want.

Can the hypnotherapist control me? Is my mind controlled?

No, you are the one that’s in control. Once again the hypnotherapist is there to help you resolve your problems, nothing else.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No that’s impossible.

Can I remember everything afterwards?

You are aware of everything at all times and will remember everything.

How many sessions will I need?

That will depend on what it is you need help with, many problems can be resolved in just a few hours while more complex issues might require more. The number of sessions will be discussed at the first consultation.

Equine Involvement Therapy

What is Equine Involvement Therapy?

With the guidance and interpretation of a qualified Therapist, Equine Involvement Therapy is about horses helping people help themselves to change behaviours or thought patterns that are preventing them from moving forward with their lives.

Can it help me?

If you really want recovery or a resolution to your problems and to move forward with some peace of mind then yes Equine Involvement Therapies can help you.

What problems, disorders or conditions does it help?

Equine Involvement Therapy will benefit anyone suffering from numerous conditions including those relating to Stress, Anxiety, Depression or Eating Disorders.

How does it work?

Problems arise for us when we focus or dwell on unhelpful or destructive thoughts, these thoughts are sometimes so intense that they become magnified out of all proportion and we don’t know how to regain control of them. By connecting and interacting with these beautiful creatures, you open and expand your focus the moment you meet them, so that from that instant onwards they are teaching you how to unlock your mind to the possibility of a life that’s free from depression, anxiety, stress or a debilitating eating disorder. .
Horses are naturally extremely perceptive and as you work with them they will pick up on your strengths, weaknesses, and any emotional conflicts, which when combined with special counselling and their continued tuition can help you break through the long standing barriers that have prevented you from getting on with your life.

Just by being with the horses will re-awaken your ability to open up and stimulate the use of all your senses and the sight, sound, smell and feel of these beautiful animals can go a long way to relieving anxieties, stresses and tensions.

Throughout the process the horses provide opportunities for you to develop your communication skills, self-confidence, raise your self-esteem, overcome fears, build up your faith in yourself and in others, teach you about compassion, love, trust, empathy and respect. The horses will teach you a great deal about yourself and how to resolve your problems, leaving you feeling good about yourself after your sessions with them.

Why are horses used?

Horses have incredible powers of perception and insight, being prey animals they have to be highly aware, in order to pick up danger signals from the other members of the herd and within the environment. This ability is reflected in their relationship with humans they pick up on our weaknesses and strengths, trying to work out whether we are safe to be with, or how good we are as their leaders. With an interpretation from the counsellor you can learn a lot about yourself from the horses attitude and behaviour towards you.

We can learn a great deal as predatory humans, from these peace loving intelligent prey creatures, about how to live our lives in the same way they do, living for the moment and widening our focus to take in and enjoy a far broader view of life.

Do I need to have any previous experience with horses?

Definitely not, you will benefit just as much if not more if you have never handled a horse in your life.

Can it help me?

Yes if you really want recovery or a resolution to your problems and to move forward with some peace of mind then Equine Involvement Therapies can help you.

Is it dangerous?

No it is not dangerous, horses are animals and need to be treated with respect but with an experienced horse handler with you at all times it is perfectly safe.

Is there anything for me to be concerned about?

No not at all, Equine Involvement Therapy is about helping you with your concerns, however please do contact me at me at the email address or phone number given below with any doubts you might have and I would be happy to discuss them with you.

What if I’m scared or nervous around horses?

Don’t worry, I have horses that are perfect for helping people who are nervous and overcoming your nervousness, will go a long way towards helping you become more confident in other areas of your life.

How many sessions would I require?

That would depend on what it is you want and will be discussed at the first consultation.

Will there be any riding?

No all the interaction with the horses takes place on the ground.
